Spira by PlayMode Audio is a generative MIDI instrument that transforms a moving planetary system into music.

Up to 48 planets orbit around a central star, each moving at its own speed. Every time a planet crosses one of up to 8 beams, it triggers a note. The result is an ever-evolving stream of melodies, arpeggios, rhythmic patterns, and polyrhythms that can stay tightly synchronized with your DAW or continuously drift into new musical territory.

From ambient soundscapes and cinematic textures to electronic sequences and experimental rhythms, Spira turns a few simple controls into an endless source of musical ideas.

Create Patterns That Evolve

Choose from 34 scales and chord sets, explore 6 built-in chord progressions, move the beams around the orbital field, and change the speed and behavior of the planets.

Activate LOCKSTEP and your planets return to alignment at the end of each cycle, creating evolving patterns that always come back home.

Turn LOCKSTEP off and the planets are free to drift, producing patterns that can continue evolving without repeating in exactly the same way.

Build orbital patterns using any of the included scales, modes, and chord sets.

HELD KEYS
Hold a chord on your MIDI keyboard and Spira creates its planetary system directly from your notes.

KEY SHIFT
Play a single key to transpose the entire orbital pattern instantly.

This makes Spira equally useful as a generative composition tool, live performance instrument, or experimental MIDI sequencer.

Built-In Sound Engine + MIDI Output

Spira isn’t limited to MIDI generation.

Its onboard sound engine includes 4 timbres — CRYSTAL, COMET, BEACON, and AURA — plus COSMOS reverb and RIPPLE tempo-synced echo, so you can start creating immediately.

Every generated note is also sent through Spira’s MIDI output, allowing you to control your favorite synths, samplers, and virtual instruments.
